Cracking 'Distance Learning' Myths!

There are many myths surrounding the topic of 'distance learning'. We discuss the most common ones below:

Myth 1 - All correspondence schools and online learning courses are a scam

Fact - It would be wrong to say that all online courses are a scam. Sadly, some scandalous virtual 'diploma mills' do exist some but it's not that are no genuine distance learning programs. Before you select an online study course, make sure that it is accredited by a nation or regional accrediting agency. Do not go in for a school that holds no legitimate accreditation.

Myth 2 - Online/ Distance learning courses are for those who can't do well in a 'real' school

Fact - Admission to online courses are open to learners from all walks of life and it is absolutely absurd to say that online learning courses are for 'not-so-intelligent' people. As a matter of fact, most distance learners are those who already have an undergraduate degree or other similar classroom credits under their belt. So, it would be wrong to tag all e-learners as those who are not as brilliant as regular students.

Myth 3 - Big employers don't consider online distance learning degrees

Fact - Online distance learning degrees have finally managed to gain due and wide acceptance from all types of employers - whether big or small. Those who still doubt the fact should check out the degrees earned by some of those employed with the largest American corporations. It is generally seen that people who are already employed take up online courses because this gives them a chance to upgrade their skills without quitting their present job. So, why would employers mind?

Myth 4 - Online study programs are a lot easier as compared to the courses taught in 'tangible schools'

Fact - It actually depends on the course, school and of course the student. But most often than not, course curriculum is the same. The only difference lies in the medium through which the lessons are delivered. A recently carried out research points towards the obvious. It says that it ultimately depends on how earnest the student is with the study program. It is just a myth that online programs are relatively easier.

Myth 5 - Online Distance Learning programs are more costly as compared to regular courses

Fact - It actually depends on the course chosen by you. Sometimes you may feel that an online course for the same program is a bit costlier but that's not how it is every time. If you consider the total expenses, an online course actually turns out to be cheaper because correspondence learners save on other expenses like parking fee, commuting costs, childcare costs etc.

Myth 6 - Online Distance Learning Programs are not as highly qualitative as regular courses

Fact - As stated earlier, tangible schools that offer online courses as well use the same admission standard and curriculum for both regular as well as correspondence studies. Rest it all depends on the quality of the course and university chosen by you. You should therefore be very careful while selecting both.
